Secret Ponchos, the first title from indie developer Switchblade Monkeys, will be making its way to Steam’s Early Access program sometime this summer, in addition to its PS4 release later this year. The developers intend to use Early Access, which allows players to purchase and play an early build of the game prior to its release, as a means of garnering user feedback for balancing and polish, which makes sense, given the title’s competitive nature.
In Secret Ponchos, players fight through arena battles from a top down perspective. However, unlike other, similar titles in this genre, Secret Ponchos opts for a slower, more focused approach familiar to fighting game fans, where precision is input mastery is king. Using this method, the indie developer hopes to fund the project and iron out any kinks the game may have to get it ready for a PC release. Creative director of Switchblade Monkeys, had this to say regarding Early Access:
We realized Early Access would be the perfect program for this; it creates an environment where we can self-fund development of the PC version to make it a reality, in addition to exposing all versions of the game to a broader round of polish and tuning that you can only get when developing with an actual beta community of players.
Players can expect to see Secret Ponchos on PlayStation 4 and PC later this year.
