Wasteland 2 receives update including all of Arizona, full game to launch August 2014

Wasteland 2, sequel to the 1988 RPG classic Wasteland has received a major update, allowing players to explore the entire Arizona portion of the game, which is roughly half of the overall world. In addition, inXile Entertainment has announced that the game will be coming out of Early Access for a full release sometime by the end of August 2014. Veteran games developer Brian Fargo had this to say on the project:

“It’s exciting to be in the home stretch on a game I’ve been wanting to get to for the last two decades. The feedback from our backers on the early beta has been great and I’m proud of the way Wasteland 2 is shaping up. The scope of the game is immense with a word count that is greater than The Lord of the Rings novels and a solid 50 hour+ game experience that has diversity from beginning to end. My goal has been to over deliver on our backer’s expectations for Wasteland 2.”

For the uninitiated, the original Wasteland was the spiritual predecessor to the critically-acclaimed Fallout franchise, which has received a great deal of popularity in recent years.  Behind the project is a team of seasoned developers, including legendary RPG pioneers Brian Fargo and Chris Avellone, best known for their work at Interplay Intertainment, the studio that created PlaneScape: Torment, Fallout, and the original Wasteland.

Players can participate in the beta on the game’s Steam page here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/240760/
