Longbow Games has just released the newest installment in their historical strategy series Hegemony, Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar. The Canadian developer tackles Roman history this time, placing the laurel crown atop players’ heads as they fight through the highlights of Caesar’s career: Bridging the Rhine, conquering some Gauls, invading Brittania a little- whatever went on between orgies.
The shtick of it all seems to be that running this big old empire is tough, and complicated. While you’ll definitely be slaughtering malnourished savages by the thousands, you’ll also have to set up supply lines and administer the minutiae of your campaign. There are also some lovely building mechanics for setting up forts to keep those dirty Picts away from your delicious, precious olive oil. It all should be very pretty too; Rome boasts 10 times the graphical detail of its predecessor and a million square kilometer map (wow-ee!) stretches from the Mediterranean to Brittania.
Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar is out today on Steam for $29.99.
