Today marked SMITE’s one year anniversary since its official release back in March of 2014 and boy has it been quite a year!
In celebration of this, Hi-Rez Studios created a birthday music video (which can be found below), is offering incredible sales all week long within SMITE and published a very informative news release that touches on SMITE’s first steps, first words and first world championship tournament. Read all about it below.
Happy birthday! Today Hi-Rez Studios commemorates the first anniversary of the official launch of its action MOBA game, SMITE, the online Battleground of the Gods. While time may mean nothing to the likes of immortals, the past year has been full of reasons to celebrate for the seven million players who now comprise the SMITE community.
Hi-Rez Studios has added 12 new Gods in the year since release, raising the number of playable Gods to 63. SMITE has also been made available in eight different languages, bringing the game to new territories including Latin America and China. The first season of official competitive play culminated with the SMITE World Championship in January, where nearly 2.9 million cumulative daily unique viewers from around the globe watched eight teams battle for more than $2.6 million in prizes, the third highest prize pool ever for an eSports tournament at the time. Season two is already well underway on PC, with new surprises to come as the year goes on.
In addition, the past year brought the reveal that SMITE will arrive on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, in 2015 as the console’s first MOBA. Hi-Rez Studios is holding an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) on Reddit at 1pm ET / 10am PT today, focusing on the upcoming Xbox One version of SMITE with Lead Producer Andy Anderson, among others. Players can sign up for the game’s closed beta on Xbox One, expected later this spring, at www.SmiteGame.com/Xbox.
To celebrate the occasion, Hi-Rez Studios announced a number of promotions for SMITE on PC for the week ahead. From now until Friday, March 27, the Ultimate God Pack, which includes all current and future Gods, is only $19.99 (reduced from $29.99). During that same period, all individual pre-launch skins – those made available before SMITE’s official release – are 50% off, and all Gem Packs will award bonus gems. In addition, throughout this weekend, from Friday, March 27, to Sunday, March 29, all SMITE Gods will be free to use, and all players will earn worshippers at twice the normal rate, with bonus gems for winning.
