Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones is now available for purchase on Steam and GoG, as well as on the Humble Store which formerly carried it exclusively. It’s also out for the Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PS Vita and costs $15.

Stealth Inc 2 is a 2D platform game utilizing elements from a number of genres, notably an overworld reminiscent of Metroid that rewards exploration, fast paced puzzles where quick thinking means the difference between life and death, as well as, of course, a great deal of crouching, crawling, running, jumping, and hanging off ledges precariously. The goal of Stealth Inc 2 is simple: find your fellow clones and rescue them. Actually accomplishing that is anything but. Along the way, the player will gain equipment and gadgets that will not only allow for further progression but will give old puzzles new solutions. The game features a charming art style that runs at a smooth 60 frames per second.

Perhaps the boldest feature in Stealth Inc 2 is the fact that there are no game overs, no lives. Failure means that a sort of rewind takes place and the player immediately gets to retry the section, without even as much as a loading screen. This is an interesting choice to alleviate one of the almost inextricable flaws of the stealth genre, that getting caught always carries a harsh punishment if not instant failure. It always seems to be a body blow and although most games allow you to shoot or fight your way out, there’s always that sinking feeling that at the end of level grading there will be a big fat one in the “times caught” rubric. It’s interesting at least to finally see a fresh take on correcting the trial and error humdrum that represents the worst of stealth games, but it may be at the cost of that shining moment of glory when one sneaks through a level flawlessly that represents the best of them.

With Stealth 2 being added to the Steam and GoG catalogues and already having been out for almost every console, now gamers of all stripes have a chance to play the game of clones. And when you play the game of clones, you win or you start over immediately.
