In their E3 presentation on June 16th, Nintendo revealed a collaboration to include two of its stars in Activision’s upcoming toys-to-life title Skylanders Superchargers. A signature vehicle will also be available for each character, as is the theme of the game. Usable only on Nintendo platforms, one of these two figure and vehicle sets will be bundled with each relevant Starter Pack. The pack for the Wii U will feature Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and his Barrel Blaster land vehicle, while the Wii and 3DS packs will include Hammer Slam Bowser and his Clown Cruiser air vehicle. All three packs will also include the previously announced Super Shot Stealth Elf as well.
The appearances and abilities of these characters will reference their history in Nintendo games, while also giving them new styles and abilities. Donkey Kong, for example, appears wearing a yellow suit in addition to his red necktie. His moves involve throwing barrels and bringing scaffolding down on his enemies, along with some brand new abilities that haven’t been revealed yet. Bowser, meanwhile, appears with a large hammer and metal armor. He can summon koopas and breathe fire, or enter the new Magma Bowser form to burn things up further.
These figures will also function as amiibo, for extra play options. Twisting the figure’s base puts it into amiibo mode, where it functions exactly like the existing amiibo for these two characters. Skylanders Superchargers will be available for Wii U, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS; along with Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and iPad; on September 20th. The home console starter packs will retail for $74.99, and the 3DS version will cost $64.99. The Wii and Nintendo 3DS versions will differ from the others.
