inkle, a self described “independent narrative game company” also known for its Sorcery! series, has just released its award winning mobile game 80 Days on PC and Mac. 80 Days was previously released in 2014 on iOS and Android with great reception, winning Times Game of the Year for 2014.
Inspired by Jules Verne’s classic adventure novel, Around the World in 80 Days, 80 Days can be thought of as a choose-your-own-adventure game where the narrative develops differently as you plot your course in a race around the world. The game features 169 distinct cities set in a steampunk Victorian era and allows travel between those cities via steamer, submarine, hot-air balloon, camel, and other steampunk modes of transport.
The game’s narrative contains nearly 750,000 words, 12 times the word count of the novel. Of course, each play-through will contain only a subset of those as you pass through certain cities and make choices that impact your journey. The multitude of choices the player can make throughout each game promises a great replay value with a unique play-through each time.
This newly released PC and Mac version contains content not currently on the mobile versions including 30 new cities to pass through and a number of additional side-quests and NPCs. But if you already own the game on mobile, fear not! The new content will be arriving to iOS and Android via a free update scheduled for tomorrow (Oct. 1)!
80 Days is available now through popular digital distributors GoG, Humble, GMG, and Steam for $9.99.
