Dark Souls fans, the newest member to the Souls series is right around the corner. On April 12th, Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware will be spreading great joy with the release of Dark Souls III. With the release just 3 months away, Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed the new cinematic trailer. Within the first 60 seconds of the trailer, I get this nostalgia that rushes over me, almost as if I am watching the intro scene to Dark Souls I. This trailer is outstanding; I immediately could tell that Designer Hidetaka Miyazaki’s heart and soul (pun intended) is truly in this game.
I was not the happiest nerd on the block with the Dark Souls II Scholar of The First Sin. I know some of you will not agree with me, but I really feel that Miyazaki did not give his full attention to Dark Souls II. There were so many obvious flaws in the game design and even the lore was a bit hard for me to find interesting. But if you played Bloodborne in 2015, I think it is quite obvious where his attention was. But enough of my ranting, let’s talk Dark Souls III details.
This trailer reveals much more lore to us than what we have been seeing in the gameplay trailers. We actually get a sense for this mysterious lore. You will begin your journey in a place known as Lothric, which ironically sounds and looks similar to Lordran. I really am so excited and impressed with how much the Dark Souls III trailer mimics the Dark Souls I prologue. Wow! I am just chalked full of Dark Souls puns today, get it? Mimic? But to get back on track the trailer introduces 3 very powerful looking bosses: Yhorm the Giant, Aldrich Saint of the Deep, and Farron’s Undead Legion. So much pain awaits us in this new land and like I have said before, you can bet to see my summon sign in Lothric on April 12th.
