Capcom confirmed today that grappler Alex is now available for Street Fighter V. Appearing in SFIII way back in 1997 (that’s almost 20 YEARS ago), Alex came with the most tragic of backstories: his parents died when he was young, so his dad’s friend taught him how to fight (in the streets, presumably).
I kick you in the face!
Also launched today was the In-Game Shop, where players can purchase DLC characters, costumes, and other additional content that will be revealed at a later date. Fight Money can be used to purchase said items, which gamers get when they fight online, complete Story Mode, do tutorials, etc. New characters cost 100,000 FM each and Story Mode costumes cost 40,000 FM each. Later this year, SFV will see the arrival of 5 more fighters: Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien.
I hope this is Juri’s official costume when she drops
Real life money (aka Zenny) cannot be used in the shop as of yet, so Capcom has made Alex free for a limited amount of time. Once this time period ends, any DLC character that was used for free will need to be bought in order to continue using (either with Zenny, Fight Money, or by procuring the Season Pass).
If you’ve been following SFV news closely, you should know a patch dropped for the game on Monday. Here is a list of what that patch added to the core experience:
Demonstrations: Learn the nuances of battle through helpful demonstrations and tutorials. Contains content for each of the 16 characters, as well as advice geared towards players of all skill levels.
Trials: Put your skills to the ultimate test with combo trials for all 16 characters, ranging from basic to pro combos. Completing Trials will earn players additional Fight Money.
Online Rematch Option
Salty from a close loss online? Want revenge? Players can now play a 2/3 set in Ranked Match when both players accept the rematch.
Battle Lounge Improvements
Enjoy up to 8 person lobbies, complete with match spectating.
Many bugs have also been squashed with this patch as well, so hopefully it won’t take 300 years to get into an online match now.
Alex hates long waits/getting disconnected from the servers
As a peace offering from Capcom for SFV‘s beta tests and launch issues, Ryu and Chun-Li’s Story Mode costumes will be completely free of charge. For more information about the recent title updates, click here.
Street Fighter V will be getting a steady stream of content, updates, and patches throughout its lifespan, so keep checking back with TVGB for all the latest news. I can’t wait to get home and put Alex through his paces!
