The finale of last night’s Street Fighter V tournament, held at the prestigious CEO event, featured a new trailer showcasing the dirty, dirty style of everyone’s favourite Fight Money grubber, Balrog, who will be playable in SFV‘s upcoming Story Mode DLC, releasing this week.
In fact, the delayed June update brings a much needed shot-in-the-arm to Capcom’s latest entry to the classic series, which has passed the honeymoon period for many players. This week’s update not only adds the cinematic, baffling-looking story event, but also daily challenges, a wave of new costumes and the awaited return of high-school ninja Ibuki.
Not only that, but the new trailer reveals that Balrog’s famous Las Vegas stage will also returning to the game, which is good, as the game in is dire need of new battlegrounds. Last, but by no means least, we get glimpses of the in-game models for Juri and Urien, both of whom will be playable in chapters of the story mode, ahead of their release later in the year. Juri is rocking a bodysuit worthy of Overwatch’s Widowmaker, whilst Urien is pretty much the most dapper dude you’ve ever seen.
It’s a big month for Street Fighter V, and it needs one. With the success of the recently released Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator, and a promising looking King of Fighters XIV on the horizon, Capcom can ill-afford to assume that Street Fighter rules the roost just because “it exists”. After various delays and some niggling issues, the coming six months could possibly be make or break for SFV in the eyes of the international community and, ironically, it’s SFV itself that needs to regain focus and “Rise Up”.
But to bet against the biggest fighting brand of all time? Those are long odds worthy of Vegas itself.
Street Fighter V is available now on Playstation 4 and PC.
