The latest in the Kalypso Media Tropico builder/political sim series, Tropico 5 Penultimate Edition, was released in May of this year for XBox One. Following close behind was the ‘Waterborne’ expansion, which became available for download at the end of July. Although not as highly rated as Tropico 5 itself (according to Metacritic), one reviewer said the PC version of this expansion offered “hours of new excitement for those who loved the original Tropico 5.”
Tropico 5 Penultimate Edition allows you to play as El Presidente, leader of a Cuba-like island country as you develop your city and guide the politics of your people through various historical stages, from colonial through to cold war. Waterborne offers events and building options that focus more on the coastal areas of the island, as well as providing off-shore alternatives for energy with tidal power plants, military submarines for defense, even floating luxury apartments for housing.
The expansion includes a new campaign spanning six scenarios, with new dialogue and story. Waterborne is also compatible with existing sandbox and multiplayer modes.
‘Waterborne’ for Tropico 5 Penultimate Edition is available now on Xbox One via the Xbox Games Store for £6.39/€7.99/$7.99 here.
