Team17 and Playtonic Games have revealed some pretty kickass news bits regarding their upcoming colorful platformer, Yooka-Laylee.
Any news regarding this title drives me absolutely BATTY with excitement!
For one thing, Yooka-Laylee now has a release date of April 11th, 2017, for the PS4, XBone, and PC. The game can be pre-ordered now for £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 for non-Kickstarter backers in both digital and physical formats from all participating stores worldwide (only the XBone and PS4 get fancy boxed versions). If you backed the title on Kickstarter, you will soon get the option to upgrade to a physical version if you are into that sort of thing. And if you pre-order, you’ll unlock Yooka-Laylee Toybox instantly, which is a spoiler free sandbox experience of the game so you can get used to its controls and visuals.
Looking forward to the Wii U version of the game because you have fond memories of playing Banjo-Kazooie on the Nintendo 64? Well, Gavin Price, Playtonic’s Studio Director, has some bad news for you:
“We’re sad to announce that despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we have encountered unforseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for us to release Yooka-Laylee on Wii U as initially planned.”
My joy and optimism have been utterly destroyed
But all hope is not lost, as long as you plan on ponying up the dough for Nintendo’s next console. Gavin continues:
“We can however confirm today that we are working very closely with Nintendo to look to bring Yooka-Laylee to the upcoming Nintendo Switch. We’re thrilled to be able to explore the opportunity and more details will be shared in early 2017. Of course, any backers who pledged for the Wii U version will be able to move their pledge to any of the versions launching on April 11th or upgrade to the Nintendo Switch version when we announce further details in 2017. Thanks again for your incredible support.”
God knows when THAT version will be coming out.
In other news, Playtonic revealed a trailer showing off a new area in the game: Capital Cashino. Take a look below:
Yooka-Laylee can be pre-ordered on the Xbox here, the PlayStation here, and the PC through Steam or GOG. Any updates on the title can be viewed on Playtonic’s website.
Anyone getting this beauty in April, or are you all waiting for The Switch version?
