It’s been four years since the last installment of Capcom’s iconic Resident Evil series, and this week they’ve released another trailer for the seventh game, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, slated for release later this month.
While demo material has been available for biohazard since last Fall, this teaser focuses more on the location of the game, the Dulvey Haunted House, home of the cannibalistic Baker family. The editors of Outside XBox have said that the house is “as much a part of the horror as the Bakers themselves”. Based on the unnerving shots of decaying rooms, grungy and peeling walls, and food left out to rot, there is a definite character to the house that will impact both the player’s psychological state and the way that the player will approach interacting with the game environment.
Despite the teaser’s lack of new information regarding gameplay or story, Capcom continues to emphasize a return to “series roots”, including the classic limited inventory system and puzzle-locked doors. As the first Resident Evil game to feature first person perspective, fans can anticipate a more intimate experience as they explore the Dulvey house and attempt to survive its residents.
Capcom promises that from the original survival horror game series, they will deliver “a disturbingly realistic experience that will define the next era in horror entertainment”. Resident Evil 7 biohazard is scheduled for release January 24, 2017.
