Mafia III has been out and about since October and in that time frame, Hangar 13 has released several bits of DLC and updates. These came in the form of street racing, new weapons, new outfits, little add-ons in general; nothing quite worth the price of admission with the season pass. However, Hangar 13 has provided details and a general timeline for their upcoming story DLC, with the first one coming as early as the end of March.
In the first of the upcoming DLC, titled “Faster, Baby!”, Lincoln Clay will join up with a new character known as Roxy Laveau in order to take out a corrupt Sheriff that hassles civil rights activists. The story of “Faster, Baby!” is focusing on a lot of the themes that made the base game of Mafia III such a standout and as Hangar 13’s narrative director, Bill Harms, says “We were really humbled by the response to the characters and the story in Mafia III, so we wanted to double-down on that as much as possible”. The narrative of Mafia III’s “Faster, Baby!” can be seen as rather poignant due to the social climate Americans have been experiencing as of late.
While strong female leads and socially complex narratives are amazing to see, the real question left is “How is the gameplay?” As the name suggests, this DLC will have a heavy focus on going fast…baby. As Hangar 13 states, “this story expansion features intense action, highlighted by thrilling stunt driving and high octane car chases in the bayou”. From this description, it sounds like what was added in the street racer update was just a small taste of how those mechanics would be utilized from a narrative standpoint in this bayou based DLC.
