Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception is a soon-to-be-released JRPG for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita. The game offers 40-50+ hours of story-rich visual novel gameplay in tandem with an active SRPG battle system. Battle features include turn-based tactics and attack chain mechanics, timing-based critical attacks, rewinding, elemental affinities/weaknesses and unique character skills, among many other features. Mask of Deception contains breathtaking art and beautifully rendered cutscenes which are sure to appeal to fans of anime and Japanese visual novels. The game also boasts a thrilling score which will perfectly match the tones of the game.
Today, ATLUS has released a character trailer for Ukon, the boisterous sellsword. Ukon is a stereotypical mercenary with a difference: he cares about the common people and is well respected by those under his command. Main characters Haku and Kuon encounter him early in the game and he convinces them to join him on a simple escort job. However, the escort job is more of a “fend off dangerous bandits” sort of job. Despite the miscommunication, Ukon takes a liking to the strange duo and later joins the party as their mentor character. Of course, there’s more to Ukon than meets the eye.
Character trailers for Kuon and Haku are also available on YouTube via AtlusUSA’s channel.
Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception will be followed by its direct sequel Mask of Truth. Mask of Deception will be released digitally and physically on PS4 and PSVita in the Americas on May 23rd 2017. In Europe, the Vita edition will be digital-only, though the PS4 edition will have a physical release. Mask of Truth will release later in the year with English text and original Japanese audio. For both games, the PS4 version will retail at $49.99 and the Vita vesion will be $39.99 (with commensurate European prices). Mask of Deception will release with a limited launch edition which includes a compendium art book and a collector’s slipcase.
