Independent publisher/developer Nicalis, Inc., who are responsible for neo-classics such as The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and Cave Story+, is revealing four upcoming console games during E3. The company’s 2017 lineup includes:
Tiny Barbarian DX
Tiny Barbarian DX is the story of one Barbarian’s action-packed quest for vengeance on the Nintendo Switch. The game features engaging 2D platform action and combo-based hacky-slashy combat with retro-style pixel art and an exciting chiptune soundtrack. Tiny Barbarian DX will also include a two player cooperative mode, unlockable game modes and various references and homages to the 8- and 16-bit game era in each of its four lengthy episodes.
Ittle Dew 2+
Ittle Dew 2+ is an upgraded and expanded Nintendo Switch port of the action/adventure title of the same name by developer Ludosity. Sassy adventurer Ittle and her flying pal Tippsie return in the updated version and are stranded on a mysterious island armed with a few weapons and a magical map. Ittle and Tippsie must explore the 3D landscape in search of valuable loot and the eight scattered pieces of a raft that could be her ticket home.
Veteran Japanese developer Studio Saizensen has announced a hardcore, old-school fighting game – Blade Strangers – which features online multiplayer battles for Switch and PS4. Beginners can jump right in without fear alongside tournament-calibre players, as both will easily be able to make use of the refined four-button control scheme, firing off intricate combos, counters, and specials with ease. The fighter roster includes characters from previous Studio Saizensen games (Code of Princess, Sayonara Umihara Kawase), Nicalis games (Cave Story+) and other surprise entrants.
The End is Nigh
The End is Nigh is a brand new game from The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel. The End is Nigh is a sprawling adventure/platformer where players control Ash, a little black glob trying to make a friend out of the body parts he finds scattered through a post-apocalyptic world (creepy.) Ash leaps his way through a never-ending onslaught of decaying, mutant creatures, and can collect assorted tumours and hidden video game cartridges that unlock fully playable minigames.
All four games are planned for release in 2017, with Tiny Barbarian DX, Ittle Dew 2+ and The End is Nigh scheduled for Q3. Blade Strangers will appear in Q4.
