Christmas, 1991. A spoiled young lad points his spoiled young nose in the air and crosses his arms in front of him as he sits by a poorly-decorated, teetering Christmas three. On the floor in front of him, amid the torn remains of wrapping paper, is a box with with the word "Genesis" marked prominently on its face. Genesis? He wants a Super Nintendo. "Take it back mother - take it back this instant," he proclaims, and his mother duly obliges. The next day, as the spoiled young lad reclines on the ground with his collection of action figures scattered about him, his mother places the Nintendo seal of quality-emblazoned box in front of him, and his gaming destiny is forever sealed.
If you fast forward a bit, very little has changed. Though I am far less spoiled, my affinity towards Nintendo products hasn't changed in the slightest. Hardly a fault-condoning fanboy, I play Nintendo games for various monetary and aesthetic reasons. Nintendo makes good stuff, I give Nintendo my money.
Video games are fun to play, fun to read about, and to write about, with the latter two qualities being self-enforced legitimizations for my interest in video games as whole. And that's why I'm here. |
