Green Day: Rock Band will launch this summer, MTV Games has announced, bringing with it 47 of the Grammy-winning group’s tracks, all of which can be exported to Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and the recently announced Rock Band 3. The six Green Day tracks that have already been released on the Music Store will be playable in the dedicated retail release as well, but with “added vocal harmonies, unique performance visuals, and exclusive archival material”.

The title will launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii worldwide on June 8, followed by Rock Band 3 later in the year.

Little is known about Harmonix’s upcoming music title, Green Day: Rock Band, but one thing has been made clear: Harmonix won’t be the only developer working on the game.

Harmonix has told Destructoid that they will be partnering with Demiurge Studios, MK12, as well as other developers. Both Demiurge and MK12 have worked with Harmonix in the past, with Demiurge dealing with the Rock Band DLC track packs for retail and MK12 designing The Beatles: Rock Band animated sequences.

Considering Harmonix’s collaborations with other developers in the past, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. It should give them some extra time to pump out more titles in 2010 as promised.

Green Day: Rock Band will not be the only game Harmonix is developing for a 2010 release, MTV Games’ Senior VP Paul DeGooyer says. The Beatles: Rock Band follower is “of course not going to be our only game this year,” DeGooyer told Newsarama, leading us to believe that we may be seeing the next numerical sequel this year.

Harmonix co-founder and CEO Alex Rigopolous first spoke of Rock Band 3 at CES 2009 early last year when he revealed they’re breaking out of the annual release cycle with the title. Since, son of The Beatles’ George Harrison and The Beatles: Rock Band contributor Dhani Harrison said he wants Rock Band 3‘s instruments to be “more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game.”

“Give me a couple years, it’s going to happen,” he said last November.

Here’s one for all music fans. Green Day will make an appearance on the Rock Band platform in the form of their own game featuring “songs, favorite venues, and imagery” of the band. No much information has been given yet so for now, we’ll just have to keep our picks and itchy rocking fingers in our pockets until further notice. There is a video below though.
