S.T.A.L.K.E.R. PC expansion, console port, sequel on the way

A bumper crop of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. news today. First up comes the announcement that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat, “a third stand-alone game” in the series, is due for release on PC this autumn. There’s also confirmation of a console port of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. making its way to Xbox 360 and PS3. And then, like an irradiated cherry on the mutated cake, GSC Game World have also announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is ‘certain.’

Call of Prypiat is set in the eponymous Ukrainian town, abandoned after the Chernoble disaster. According to the report, the story picks up from the end of the original and follows “a large-scale military “Fairway” operation aimed to take the CNPP under control.” Unsurprisingly, things don’t go too smoothly and you, a special agent, are sent to investigate what went wrong.

Apparently, Call of Prypiat will have an ‘improved’ A-Life system, around 70 new quests developed by GSC Game World, two new monsters, new behaviour and abilities for all monsters, and a new interface. A mod community created sleep function has also been added, along with the ability to continue playing after the conclusion of the story. Pleasingly, Call of Prypiat will attempt to return to the original tone of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

As for the console port of the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R., GSC have also revealed that work has already begun. No other details beyond that, we’re afraid. Similarly detail-less is the announcement of a proper S.T.A.L.K.E.R sequel. So far all we have to go on is a translation (from nV News) of an online-conference where GSC President Sergei Grigorovich was quoted as saying, “”we will certainly develop S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2“. We’ll bring more when it comes.
