Where’s the love for Wii’s Excitebots: Trick Racing?

Excitebots: Trick Racing, Monster Game’s animal and insect-enhanced sequel to Excite Truck, improved on the gameplay of its popular predecessor, received overwhelmingly positive reviews, and proved a genuinely entertaining gaming experience for all who have the pleasure of playing. So of course it would bomb.

Despite being published by Nintendo, the game has only sold 13,000 copies in the United States, failing to even crack the NPD’s list of top 100 games by sales for the month of April. For a game featuring soccer-playing praying mantis robots, this is nothing short of criminal. With its cutesey and colorful take on the traditional Mario Kart formula, I was sure Excitebots would become a sleeper hit, not slip into a permanent vegetative state. Hopefully the game, like the shape-shifting vehicles it stars, will have legs with quick to hype, slow to buy Wii owners.
