Champions Online delayed

Thomas Jefferson once said that “delay is preferable to error.” In that noble tradition, Champions Online developer Cryptic has decided to delay the release of their MMO, originally scheduled for July 14th, until September 1st.

Bill Roper, Design Director and Executive Producer on Champions Online, acknowledged via the official website that “It is critically important for an MMO to be as good as it possibly can be at launch,” so the company has decided to delay the release to make sure the product shipped is the best it can be. A noble and, if you pardon the cliche, heroic goal.

The reason for the delay is little more than ensuring that all bases are covered and that the game delivers on expectations; something that takes time. Roper remarks “we quickly realized that in order to implement certain features that we all considered important the development of Champions Online would require more time.”

And time they now have, time to deliver on his promise of Cryptic’s “proven track record of releasing solid games.” Until then it means little to you or I, just more time hanging around the beta until they finish their polish. Fingers crossed it’s worth the wait.
