Activision: PS3 to outsell Xbox 360 in 2010

According to Activision Blizzard, the PlayStation 3 is going to outsell the Xbox 360 this year. More specifically, Activision Publishing president Mike Griffith is predicting that the PS3 will sell 9 million units this year, with the 360 close behind with 8 million in unit sales. He is expecting the Wii to continue its reign with a total of 12 million consoles sold over the year. With combined sales of just under 30 million units for the three major consoles, Griffith believes that more people will own videogame consoles in 2010 than ever before.

“Console sales remain strong in 2009 and as of December 31st, the installed base of hardware in U.S. and Europe for current generation systems and handhelds was 218 million units, an increase of 37 per cent year-over-year,” said Griffith. “Looking to 2010, we expect the installed base of current generation systems to grow to 265 million, making this cycle the largest ever.”
