Intel drops Offset, founders form new studio

Two and a half years after acquiring Offset Software and its magnificent-looking Project Offset (codename), Intel has decided to forget the whole thing due to “recent changes in our product roadmap”.

“Intel purchased Offset Software to improve our game development knowledge-base and to further Intel’s visual computing technology development expertise, helping the company offer robust products, support, and tools to customers,” a rep explained to BigDownload, adding that “some of the resources and technologies from the acquisition are being re-applied to help support new graphics related projects.”

Sam McGrath and other original Offset founders have parted ways with Intel, both parties have confirmed, and have now formed Fractiv. What they’re up to and if they somehow managed to grab Project Offset along for the ride McGrath cannot say “at this stage”.

“… but I’m looking forward to answering your questions in the near future.”

The title appeared to be chugging along well just earlier this year when the latest in a series of tech demos was released. Additional news were promised for later this year but, clearly, not what we were expecting.
