35 laid off at Sony Online Entertainment

Sony Online Entertainment has thinned its workforce in favor of ‘improving operational efficiency’, the company’s confirmed.

Following last year’s axing of 41 employees, the house of Everquest and the ever-popular Free Realms now confirms that another 35 have been let go, a number that makes up “just over 4 per cent” of its full-time staff.

According to Scott Gulbransen, Sr. Director Global PR & Corp Communications, the move was made “to better align the company’s resources against areas of growth that meet consumer demand in today’s online market as well as improve operational efficiency”.

“The changes will better position SOE to deliver against its emphasis on developing games for a wider, more diverse audience and remaining a worldwide leader in online gaming.”

SOE is currently developing DC Universe Online and The Agency for the PC/PS3.
