The Old Republic heads to space

How’s this for a BioWare Comic-Con surprise: the studio’s upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic has space combat. Exciting, yes?

How does it work then? According to community manager Sean Dahlberg who dropped the news on the MMO’s official forums, the space bit is “an alternative gameplay experience to the primary game of storytelling, questing, and ground-based combat.”

Players get their own “personal ship” which can be flown to a number of “‘hot spots’ on your galaxy map” and then proceed to blast their way “through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars space battles.”

For further details, Dahlberg points to the October issue of PC Gamer.
