PopCap couldn’t sell Bejeweled for $60,000

You better believe they’re kicking themselves now. “They” would be the unnamed publishers who passed on the chance to buy PopCap’s wildly popular Bejeweled for a scant $60,000 when it was developed and released about a decade ago. Of course, back in 2001, the game wasn’t as popular as it is now; with 50 million copies sold in the last 10 years and 10 million active players today, it’s one of the most popular and widely played casual games out there. So it was quite interesting to hear PopCap frontman Dave Bishop pass on the knowledge that the colorful puzzle game was literally unsellable upon its release a decade ago.
