THQ, Guillermo del Toro game to debut at VGAs

Despite confirmation from Guillermo del Toro that he’ll be working with THQ on “huge games,” THQ has yet to make the announcement officially official. At least we have a venue to expect more details. Joystiq reports that Danny Bilson, THQ’s EVP of core games, revealed to the audience at IGDA’s Leadership Forum that the publisher “will be announcing the game title and the studio on the VGA awards in about a month.”

Trying very hard not to name the name of Guillermo del Toro before the official announcement, Bilson stated: “You’ve heard rumors of us working with a big film director who is actually a big gamer. He’s a gamer who wants to make a great game and has very interesting points of view and is partnered very closely with myself and my writing partner, Paul.”

As for what the mystery game will entail, we do know based on an earlier tease from del Toro that “it’s a very different type of horror game. It’s not survival horror. It’s truly a strange, geeky mix. It’s a Lovecraftian thing.” Only fitting for the game’s details to display similar psychological horrors of the unknown.

Stay tuned for Spike TV’s VGAs in mid-December for the big reveal.
