Mark Wahlberg to take the role of Nathan Drake in Uncharted movie

Well the good few years of speculation and fan casting can end here; Mark Wahlberg is heading up the role of Nathan Drake in the movie adaption of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune directed by David O. Russel. Adaption may be a bit of a stretch actually seeing as Robert DeNiro is reportedly playing Nate’s father with Joe Pesci as his uncle… two people that have never popped up in the Uncharted games (although we do like to call him ‘Uncle Sully’ at times).

MTV asked the Hollywood star about his involvement with the project, to which he replied: “David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with. The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”

Many had hoped Nathan Fillion would grab the role but it would seem it’s not to be. As for DeNiro/Pesci? “I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”

We’re not sure what including two characters that haven’t been heard of before relate to being a watered down version of a game about hunting for treasure and blowing up bad guys, but whatever. It could start shooting as early as this summer. Maybe it might even be good!
