Mojang gets legal notice from Bethesda over “Scrolls”

The man behind indie development studio Mojang — made famous by Minecraft and known mainly by his internet handle Notch — received recently a legal notice from Bethesda over the naming of its upcoming game Scrolls. Without any further investigation we can easily see what issue Bethesda might have with Scrolls, even if it does seem a bit ridiculous.

Bethesda claims that the title of Notch’s second game sounds a little too much like the Elder Scrolls series and that consumers might find themselves confusing Skyrim with the Minecraft maker’s 2nd game. Despite the legal notice from Bethesda, Notch appears to be taking the notice with good humor, stating on his Twitter feed “I still <3 Bethesda. This is hopefully just lawyers being lawyers.” We hope he’s right.
