Nintendo announces Pokemon X and Pokemon Y for 3DS

Nintendo today announced the first pair of Pokemon titles to reach the Nintendo 3DS. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released worldwide in October 2013 and will introduce at least five new monsters to fans of the franchise.

The trailer from the official Pokémon website showed three creatures that are almost certainly the choices for first Pokémon in these new games. They are grass-type Chespin, fire-type Fennekin, and water-type Froakie. Also on display were a pair of unnamed legendary-looking Pokémon.

Based on the trailer, Pokemon X and Y are visually impressive, with graphics that compare more closely to the console Pokemon titles than to previous handheld adventures.
