Starting today, PlanetSide 2 players will be able to use Player Studio to create cosmetic in-game items such as decals, hood ornaments, camo patterns, vehicle canopy overlays and helmets that they will be able to sell to other players for real money. Select items will be chosen to be placed on the marketplace and the creator of the item will receive a check from Sony Online Entertainment every quarter for part of the revenue earned from a player’s item.
This kind of player interaction has been successful for SOE in the past as they have previously had Player Studio available for EverQuest, EverQuest II and Free Realms.

In terms of comparison to where this has worked previously one only has to look as far as Valve for an example of where this business model was implemented quite successfully. Team Fortress 2 became a game that thrived on the buying and selling of user created cosmetic in-game items and this seems to be the model that PlanetSide 2 will be following with the implementation of Player Studio.
