REVIEW / Sneaky Sneaky (PC)

2015.02.09 update: This game made our Top 5 PC games of 2014 list!

Remember back in the day when you had to sneak into the castle in the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? If not, don’t worry, I got ya covered. Just skip to the 31 second mark in the video below. Now turn that video into a video game, throw in some light RPG elements, and you have Sneaky Sneaky by Naiad Entertainment.

In Sneaky Sneaky you play as a thief, aptly named Sneaky. He just stole the score of a lifetime, only to have it stolen from him shortly after. Sneaky and his mouse partner in crime, Squeak,  go on a mission to steal it all back.

Sneaky Sneaky, at face value, looks deceptively simple. Avoid detection from enemies, collect treasure and make it through the stage alive. That description however, only scratches the surface of the complexity of this phenomenal game. Sneaky, aside from hiding behind trees and in bushes, wields both a knife and a bow and arrow that he uses to slay the enemies who get too close. At the end of every stage, Sneaky gains experience and may level-up.

This is where the light RPG elements come into play. When Sneaky levels-up, he gets a skill point to put in one of four stats: Health, Dagger, Bow & Arrow and Movement. Health gives him more life, Dagger increases his knife damage, Bow & Arrow increases his bow damage and Movement increases how far he can travel if and when he gets detected. You have to be strategic about how you spend your skill points, depending on your style of play.

If the little thief does get detected Sneaky Sneaky becomes a turn-based strategy game. When enemies detect Sneaky (as seen above) all enemies who have sight of him get to take their turn first. If Sneaky makes the first move, he gets priority. During a turn enemies will move towards Sneaky, attack him or break his cover.  Sneaky has a few more tricks up his sleeve however. Sneaky can choose to run and hide, attack the enemy or use one of the items in his backpack. These items are bought from his pal Squeak the mouse. These items help Sneaky out in several ways. He can heal himself, tranquilize enemies, lure them with food, and a slew of other things.  The actions Sneaky makes are entirely up to the player and the kind of situation he’s in.

If you or someone you know are looking for an incredibly fun but challenging puzzle game, look no further than Sneaky Sneaky by Naiad Entertainment. Sneaky Sneaky will be available sometime soon for the iOS but is currently on sale now at Steam for only $4.99! Happy stealing, you adorable little klepto you!
