Silent Hills cancelled

Remember P.T.? It was a game that appeared on the PSN marketplace on August 12th, 2014. At the time it just seemed like a random horror game by a gaming studio called 7780s Studio, however time revealed that it was much more than that. Hidden beneath the incredibly disturbing dialog and the feeling of constant dread was something far more sinister. Something far more awesome. A trailer for a new upcoming Silent Hill game entitled Silent Hills. Marketed as a collaboration between the legendary Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear series, and famed film director Guillermo del Toro, director of Hellboy, Silent Hills seemed like the horror game everyone was waiting for.

Unfortunately, that dream has died. On April 27, 2015, Konami issued a statement confirming that Silent Hills “would not be continued”, but that they planned to continue the Silent Hill franchise. Personally, this is saddening news. P.T. was the scariest game that I have played in a while. It combined simple mechanics with a feeling of insanity that can only be obtained through doing the same thing over and over and over again. It was simple, yet super effective. Here is hoping that whatever comes next is half as good.
