Activision recently announced that it will partner with professional racing driver Max Chilton for the finale of the Indy Lights series. Chilton’s car will feature a Skylanders Superchargers-themed livery for the final race in this lead up to the IndyCar series and the Indianapolis 500. The race will take place on September 12th and 13th at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California.
This partnership highlights the biggest new feature in Skylanders Superchargers: vehicles and racing. In addition to using vehicles in the main adventure mode, all versions of the game will include a racing mode that allows players to race locally or online. This also follows a partnership between Chilton and Skylanders which took place earlier this year at Gamescom. As Activision’s John Coyne put it, ““Max epitomizes what Skylanders SuperChargers is all about – high-energy, fun, powerful, vehicles and racing. Skylanders appeals to fans of all ages, and we’re excited to see Max’s SuperCharged performance this weekend!” So it turns out I’m not the only adult who loves the series.
Activision also announced its plans for the game’s launch on September 20th in North America. 140 Toys R Us stores in the United States will open at midnight for the game’s launch, and all Toys R Us stores in the country will open at 8:00 AM that day. The full version of Skylanders Superchargers will be available for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U consoles, along with select iOS devices. A racing-only version will be released for the 3DS and Wii U.
