By this point, the whole bloomin’ lot of you ought to know what Don’t Starve is: the indie survival game developed by Klei Entertainment took the community by storm in 2013, receiving high praise for its uniquely Tim Burton-esque style and fascination with the total number of ways that it could (permanently) kill the player. Now, after 3 equally successful follow-up expansions to the original game, the folks at Klei are going strong with no intention of slowing down, and are in the process of bringing their fourth additional content pack, Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked, to the PS4, following an early access release on PC in December 2015.
“When you marooned me on that godforsaken spit of land…” – Captain Jack Sparrow
The newest installment has been co-developed by the team at Capybara Games, who received free reign over the already-substantial Don’t Starve world in order to create a new iteration that includes a whole host of new, nautically-themed characters, biomes and creatures. Shipwrecked allows the player new freedom to roam, with the inclusion of boats and capitulation upon the pirate mythos combining to create a world of treasure islands and terrible deep-sea beasties; the new expansion also features a ton of new equipment and an equally sizable number of new ways to die.
“It comes now, drawn with ravenous hunger to the man what bears the black spot.” – Bootstrap Bill
Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked is coming to PS4 later this spring, for GBP £3.99 (around USD $4.99), so grab your cutlass and get pillaging, because if you don’t already have the doubloons it is highly unlikely that you’ll scrape them together without looting some poor unsuspecting trader in the Gulf of Mexico… I think I lost control of that metaphor a little, but you get the idea. Don’t Starvers, prepare yourself.
