WARNING: Easter egg spoiler for Uncharted 4 ahead:
When I saw the original, janky Crash Bandicoot (albeit slightly altered) show up early in Uncharted 4, fully playable, my fellow gamers and I tensed up in a happy, anticipant way.
What does this mean? Naughty Dog giving us Crash Bandicoot after so many years? Should I start crying tears of joy now or later? Today’s Sony conference at E3 2016 had a legion of Crash fans on edge for even a glimmer of news and nervous about what was to come.
First, some news that will make my fellow TVGB writer Jake Sapir very excited simply because it’s Skylanders-related: Crash Bandicoot will feature as a playable character in Skylanders Imaginators. Crash will remain his usual quirky self, complete with original voice actor Jess Harnell reprising his role as the ridiculous marsupial, as he takes on a new role as a fully playable Skylander Sensei character. His move set will include his signature spin attack, exploding crates with 3-2-1 countdowns, wumpa fruit jetpack attacks from high in the air and more.
Crash in Imaginators will merge elements fans have come to know and love with Skylanders Imaginators‘ newest class of characters: Senseis. Every Sensei has a devastating Sky-Chi attack – their most powerful move. Crash’s Sky-Chi attack is the ability to use his yo-yo to yank his enemies into a spin attack!
In Skylanders Imaginators, a wormhole has opened in Skylands and the great Aku Aku appears! He announces the once in two decades Synchronisation Celebration where all of the worlds align perfectly. The Skylanders are invited to a huge celebration in the Wumpa Islands, but with Kaos on a quest to take over the Skylands, Crash travels through the wormhole to join in the ultimate battle.
The Skylanders Imaginators Starter Pack Featuring Crash Bandicoot will be available exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 at launch on October 16th 2016 and is now available for pre-order. The Crash toy will be playable across platforms.
Current model for the Crash Bandicoot Skylanders toy
The suggested retail price for the game is $99.99 in North America and will include Crash Bandicoot as a playable toy, standard Starter Pack characters, a Creation Crystal, Portal of Power, the full game and more!
So what about our Crash Bandicoot original trio of games remaster?
All three original games – Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped – will be remastered from the ground up!
Unfortunately with the Skylanders crossover in the limelight and boasting an earlier release date, players will simply have to wait for more news about our favourite bandicoot. I will be greatly anticipating a delicious Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty-style remaster – here’s hoping!
