Vampyr videogame – To kill or not to kill

I’m sure everyone has come across the same old vampire story several times. Someone gets turned, and then they have to live with being an immortal sun allergic blood drinker. Yes, I said sun allergic. We’ve all seen that story before, but I can assure you that this is something different than that. When I first read up on this game, I was immediately intrigued. This game is being developed by Dontnod. They are known for the game Life Is Strange.

Vampyr is based on the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic that spread across London. This outbreak is bad enough for the people getting sick. It is even worse for a doctor who has been turned into a vampire. He has to hold on to his Hippocratic Oath, while trying to satisfy his growing hunger for human blood. This is the game’s main hook.  “The sum of your decisions and experiences as a Vampyr will trigger very different endings,” said Dontnod’s Phillipe Moreau, also saying, “We have four different endings, including one if you manage to finish the game without killing anyone. Trust me, that’s a hard challenge.”

And there’s plenty of reason why this is the case. The leveling system is entirely based on taking blood from victims. That’s the only way you can get XP to level up in this game. That alone has a lot of effect on other things in the game that will pull things in different directions and make things that much more difficult. It is a new take on RPG leveling that has RPG fans like me pretty interested in giving this game a go, however there isn’t a release date as of yet.

All I can say is that I really love the idea of this game. And I’m sure there are other gamers like me who can’t wait to get their hands on it once it is finally ready for release. I know I am keeping my eye on it. It has a new, different premise that I can’t wait to see. It surely doesn’t sound like the typical vampire game. It sounds different to me. How can you progress through a game without leveling? It’ll be like playing it on the hardest difficulty. So yes, I am really eager to play. It sounds like it’ll be a fun challenge. I hope that Dontnod will release it soon.

Keep your eyes open everyone! The game will be available for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
