2K Boston now Irrational Games, again
Take-Two is renaming their Boston-based 2K studio and giving it back its original Irrational Games name. After being acquired by Take-Two in 2006, the studio that ended up developing BioShock was renamed to 2K Boston. But now, after recognizing the old name has some value and a legacy tied to it, Irrational Games has regained its familiar name.
Before being branded as 2K Boston, Irrational was a well-known PC developer with several highly rated games — System Shock 2, Freedom Force, SWAT 4 — under its belt. The return to the old name is said to be a sign of renewed commitment to fans of the studio’s games, something that should be witnessed through the new community-oriented irrationalgames.com once it launches in three days time.
