Ace Combat series surpasses 10 million sales worldwide

Namco’s premiere flight series has just broken a major gaming milestone with the announcement that Ace Combat 5 has passed the million sales mark, and the series as whole passed 10 million. That’s a mighty impressive feat for Namco, considering the amount of consolidation going on in the industry these days. The series, which first debuted on the original PlayStation console, has seen a number of sequels since its release which have received a wide range of review scores. Regardless of the score though, the games always managed to sell pretty well, which clearly explains the number of units Namco has been able to move. It also might help that the series has never really had much competition on any of the consoles it’s appeared on.
“Fueled by consistently entertaining and accessible gameplay as well as cutting-edge graphics, the series has remained a critical and commercial smash hit since its introduction in 1995. Debuting in Europe with Air Combat for the PSOne, the Ace Combat series spans eight releases across four platforms. The latest game in the Ace Combat series, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, was released for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in November 2007,” states the announcement press release.
Yeah, thats all well and good, but how would the series fare with some serious dogfighting competition? I guess we’ll find out when Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X debuts in the near future. Keep an eye on the skys, this one could get messy.
