Blizzard aiming for a 2011 release date for Diablo III

If StarCraft II taught us anything, it’s that Blizzard likes to take their time with their games. Blizzard definitely has been taking its time with the upcoming Diablo III, but the company recently announced its intent to release the game sometime in 2011.

Yes that’s 2011, no extra zeros or anything–it’ll be coming out this year if Blizzard plays their cards right. Rob Pardo, VP of Blizzard, backs the developer’s yearning for a 2011 release: “We really, really hope so. That’s our goal.” We really, really hope so too, but as Blizzard is wont to do, Pardo went on to state that “Our goal is to get there. But you know, at the end of the day, we are going to get it right. That’s more important. We’re going to promise, we’re going to get it out there when it’s awesome. And, we’re crossing our fingers, maybe it will be this year.”

Thomas Tippl, CFO of Activision Blizzard, also further elaborated on the matter as he said that if Blizzard can’t make Diablo III by this year, then not only would it see release the following year, but two titles will be on the shelves before 2013 rolls out.
