Call of Cthulhu: The Darkness Within for iPhone makes me cry tears of joy

You may have heard about my unholy obsession with adventure gaming. Then again, maybe you didn’t, so I’ll let you know I have an unholy obsession with adventure gaming. I also have a little bit of a thing for the iPhone with its smooth curves, touch screen and gaming capabilities being the perfect gatekeeper to my unholy obsession’s keymaster. Take those two, blend them with the Cthulhu Mythos and well, you’ve got yourself a date with me. Apparently I’m not alone as Spain-based Digital Jokers and Mayhem Studio have most certainly gotten out of my dreams and into my car with the announcement of their point-and-click (touch-and-click?) graphical adventure Call of Cthulhu: The Darkness Within coming to the iPhone and other mobile devices this Fall.

Watching the trailer — mistranslation and all — and seeing the screenshots really tugs at the illogical strings of my puzzle-based heart, causing me to long for the LucasArts games of yesteryear. Not to mention having recently played through Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth on Xbox, I’ve been on a kick of creepy elder gods that would love nothing more than to take over our world and drive us mad in the process. It’s a win-win sandwich that I look forward to taking a bite out of, so long as I don’t turn into a fish or get thrown into Arkham Asylum. It’d be rather hard to play the game in those situations, don’t you think?
