Capcom announces Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter

Capcom producer, Yoshinori Ono, announced today at Comic-Con’s “Street Fighter Mania!: SSFIV and Beyond!” panel that our previous suspicions are in good company; Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter (or rather, Street Fighter Cross Tekken and vice versa) are official.

The descriptions Ono spilled about the two games are also in line with what was predicted earlier, as the Capcom-made SF X Tekken will sport gameplay closer to the Street Fighter IV games and Namco’s Tekken X SF will have a Tekken-like feel. In addition, Ono revealed that the games will feature tag team combat (a la previous Vs. games and Tekken Tag Tournament) and characters will be able to utilize assist attacks and tag combos.

In a gameplay demo played by Ono and Tekken 6 producer Katsuhiro Harada, Street Fighter‘s Ryu and Tekken‘s Kazuya can be seen squaring off on a 2D plane. The fighters’ signature moves can be seen in all of their glory, including Ryu’s famous hadouken and Kazuya’s electric wind god fist. Then, much to the crowd’s delight, the two fighters take turns calling in their partners, Chun-Li and Nina, who perform their own signature moves.

Now all the game needs is to include Tekken‘s Kuma and the dream of uppercutting ferocious animals will be a reality in no time.

No release dates for either of the games were announced, but more is set to be revealed at this September’s Tokyo Game Show, so stick around for that.
