Answering Uxie’s Riddle (Combee Zubat Unown Magneton Dusclops) in Pokemon Legends Arceus

This post was last updated on September 1, 2023
Pokemon games have always included ‘puzzles’, but few have been as hard to solve as the “Combee Zubat Unown Magneton Dusclops” riddle asked by the lake guardian in Legends Arceus. This question certainly seems way harder than ‘How many badges are there in Kanto?’, but don’t worry, we’ve got your back.
How Many Eyes do Combee Zubat Unown Magneton and Dusclops Have All Together?
Well, if you happened to have an incredible memory and did some quick math you’d probably say something like 11. Try responding to the lake guardian with that answer and you certainly won’t be receiving Uxie’s claw anytime soon.
The trick comes down to the weird, backward, Yoda-speak riddle that Uxie asks you at Lake Acuity. It doesn’t ask how many eyes the pokemon have altogether. Instead, it wants you to say all of them at the same time, yet individually.

Why is the Answer to Uxie’s Riddle 60131?
It might look like a very strange response, but 60131 is in fact the correct answer to Uxie’s riddle in Pokemon Legends Arceus.
Uxie doesn’t ask us for the total number of eyes shared by the listed pokemon. Instead, they ask us to provide the number of eyes altogether, one at a time.
The pokemon listed, and the number of eyes they have, are as follows:
- Combee – 6 eyes; two for each of the three ‘faces’, which totals up to six eyes.
- Zubat – 0 eyes; Zubat is blind and uses sonar to see, so it actually has zero eyes.
- Unown – 1 eye; no matter which Unown you encounter it will still have only one eye.
- Magneton – 3 eyes; each Magnemite has one eye.
- Dusclops – 1 eye; like the cyclops it’s named for, a Dusclops has but one eye.
With that, all you have to do is type these digits in with the Switch’s digital keyboard and you’ll complete Uxie’s trial, receiving Uxie’s claw to form the Red Chain.

How Do You Get to Uxie’s Trial?
Uxie’s trial, officially known as the Trial of Lake Acuity, is one of three missions given to you once you’re kicked out of Jubilife Village. After you’ve quelled all five lords, you’re tasked by Cogita to complete the three trials of the lake guardians.
Each of the guardians represents a different element of the human spirit. Uxie, which is found at Lake Acuity in the Alabaster Icelands, represents knowledge, so its test is a riddle.
Of course, before you can answer the riddle of this legendary pokemon, you’ll have to face its guardian, an alpha hisuian zoroark. This normal/ghost-type pokemon is only weak to dark-type moves, but with the right pokemon, you should be able to take it down easily.
Can You Catch the Three Lake Guardians?
Like any good Pokemon game, Pokemon Legends Arceus is still about catching them all. Naturally, this means you can catch Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit as well. After completing the main story, players can return to the lakes to catch each of them.
There are a series of missions provided to you by Cogita and Volo in the post-game. One of these is Mission 21: The Plate of the Lakes. Each of the legendary pokemon is back in their respective sanctuaries.
Once again, you’ll find Uxie at Lake Acuity in the Alabaster Islands, you’ll find Azelf at Lake Valor in the Crimson Mirelands, and you’ll find Mesprit at Lake Verity in the Obsidian Fieldlands.
Final Thoughts
Pokemon Legends Arceus is a fantastic game, that introduces us to the ancient Hisui Region. Possibly the most exciting piece of it is that it provides longtime fans with a real challenge. That being said, sometimes those challenges can be a little tougher than we expect.
Fortunately, when things get difficult, we’ve got you covered.
