Could Crysis be as big as CoD? “Why not?”
When it comes to shooters, everyone wants to be Call of Duty. I don’t necessarily mean in terms of gameplay of course, but when it comes to sales everyone really wants to be Call of Duty. Not only that, but developer Crytek reckon that they can indeed match the series in the years to come with their Crysis franchise.
Eurogamer asked executive producer Nathan Camarillo if the upcoming Crysis 2 could match Call of Duty. He replied: “We say why not? We always do. Obviously with Crysis 2 we have to set a high quality bar and get everyone’s attention across all platforms. That’s our goal with the title.”
Crysis 2 ticks all the boxes: smooth controls, great graphics and fun online; it’s got as good a chance as any other franchise to take on CoD: “As the franchise grows down the line, there’s no reason it can’t be as big,” Camarillo added. “It’s very appealing in that it’s a near future military setting. It appeals to sci-fi gamers as well because of the sci-tech, science fiction elements. It’s not a space opera. It’s not set 300 years in the future. It’s 13 years in the future.”
Crysis 2 is set to launch next year.
