EA confirms Need for Speed movie for 2014
EA and DreamWorks have just announced that the latter has picked up the rights to do a flick based on former’s popular racing franchise.
Brothers George (producer on She’s Out of My League) and John Gatins (wrote script for Real Steel) have developed an original story for the movie, with the screenplay “based on the Need for Speed series, but is not based on an individual game.” EA will be producing with John Gatins and Mark Sourian, while Scott Waugh of Act of Valor fame is attached to direct.
As for what to expect: “The film adaptation will be a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. In Need for Speed, the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.”
Production is set to begin early next year, with the flick targeting a 2014 release.
