EA “looking at” subs-based Battlefield
A future Battlefield would well launch with a subscription model, EA’s Patrick Söderlund has said; while nothing’s official, the company is investigating the possibility.
“I think it’s fair to say that we’re looking at that,” Söderlund told VentureBeat when quizzed on the chances of a subscription-based service being introduced.
“Like all other companies, we’re looking at how we can maximise our investment in this and get the most out of our investment and get more people playing this product.
“That may take us to different places, but we’re not really talking about where that is yet.”
Whether it cold be a Call of Duty Elite type service where premium subscribers get content early, or another approach, Söderlund did not clarify.
EA and DICE’s current stats service, Battlelog — which launched with Battlefield 3 — is available to all players free of charge.
