EA planning “persistent” gamer profiles across all of its titles

During the MI6 videogame marketing conference in San Francisco, EA Sports president Peter Moore explained a thing or two of EA’s future plans to have “persistent” gamer profiles across all of the company’s titles, which probably means a cloud-based solution, starting with the EA Sports label.

“Today we’re looking at a seamless experience across all our franchises,” said Moore, adding that “regardless of where you are, what platform you have, what game you’re playing, that you’re constantly connected.” Moore sees the future of gaming as being “connected experiences that recognize users and reward them for playing multiple games.”

While the idea of rewarding people for having played past games of a certain franchise isn’t something new, Moore explains EA’s take on “persistence,” saying, “We recognize [players] – that’s the persistence – and their presence there gets its achievements and carries them from iteration to iteration,” adding that the idea is no longer to buy one game in order to get goodies for its sequel, but rather have a migration process occur from earlier titles to the next and “move it along.”

And, as mentioned earlier, this idea starts with the EA Sports label, but the ambition is to bring it across all of the company’s titles at some point. “This is how we envision the future of our industry, and this is how we at EA Sports individualize and personalize this as the future of our brand and ultimately the future of what Electronic Arts as a whole is going to do across all of its titles.”
