Enslaved DLC gets the chop

The story of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is one we should all be familiar with. It was a new IP that was well-liked by critics yet failed to find an audience upon release.

And while the game did see the release of one piece of DLC post-launch, it would seem that other plans for the franchise, including more DLC and even a sequel, were axed thanks to poor sales. Developer Ninja Theory revealed to Edge (via) that the team had been planning additional content for the original game, including an online component using main character Monkey’s hoverboard-esque cloud device.

When talking about the game’s legacy, creative director Tameem Antoniades was split.

“I’m not sure. We wanted to create affecting characters that felt more like real people than cardboard cutouts,” he said. “If the game had been more successful, perhaps other games would follow suit and deem it a worthwhile pursuit.

“But perhaps instead it will be held as an example of why it doesn’t matter. Either way, it won’t stop us from trying. I truly believe characters and story can elevate the gameplay and affect people in deep and satisfying ways.”

Ninja Theory is currently at work on DmC, which looks to be a radical take on the Devil May Cry franchise. Will Antoniades words about story and characters be echoed in this last game?
