Quantic Dream’s bold experiment known as Heavy Rain has sold through over a million copies since its late February launch which, according to creator David Cage, is quite a bit more than expected; the initial sales expectations stood at 200,000 to 300,000 units, he says.
“We have sold more than 1 million copies of Heavy Rain worldwide,” Cage told German site Play3.de. “That was a surprise to many.”
“Our game isn’t an action game, it’s not a role-playing game, [and] it’s not an adventure. It isn’t in any one genre. When you create a new, convention-busting game to the market, it’s always a risk, both for the developer and the publisher.”
The company is “very pleased” with the reception their game’s received, Cage also said, and estimates the sales to climb past the 1.5 million mark by the end of the year.
