Kinect exceeds sales expectations, quite a bit even

Those shortages really weren’t artificial, it appears; Xbox 360’s Kinect add-on has sold 8 million worldwide units in its first 60 days of availability.

Microsoft boss man Steve Ballmer gave the figure during the company’s CES conference yesterday evening, also pointing out that 2010 overall was the best year Xbox has seen yet.

Microsoft’s original estimate was 3 million units sold by the end of 2010, which the company raised to 5 million a day ahead the device’s US launch on November 4th.

The previous announced milestones, 1 million and 2.5 million units, were reached in 10 and 27 days respectively.
